Over the summer, local artists have been capturing their “inspiring elements” of either Bushy or Home Park in the first Park Art competition, run in partnership between the Friends of Bushy and Home Parks (FBHP) and Landmark Art Centre.
The entries are now being judged and the shortlisted winners will be exhibited at the Landmark 12-15 September 10am – 4pm.
The Friends of Bushy and Home Parks and Landmark Art Centre invite everyone to come along and vote for their favourite artwork for the “People’s Choice Award” over the first three days of the exhibition. With potentially over 100 pieces of work to choose from, this could be a difficult choice.
In addition, the judges will be awarding prizes in the both the children and adult classes. All the winners and highly commended will be announced on Saturday at 5pm at a VIP reception. Special thanks to Teddington Lottery, Colicci and Cass Art who have provided the generous prizes.
The judges making the selection include Nadia Day, a celebrated park-scape local artist and Emily Burton MA, a renowned artist and an art teacher at the Landmark for 18 years. Emily said, “I'm very impressed with the quality of the submissions.” Nadia added “it’s amazing the variety of subjects and approaches used”. They will be supported by representatives from FBHP and Landmark, plus Eleanor Evetts, who is a Park Ranger in Home Park for Historic Royal Palaces.
The exhibition will also have the winners from this year’s FBHP Photographic Calendar Competition, and calendars are on sale in the Visitor Centre in the Pheasantry, Woodland Gardens, Bushy Park. Plus there will be 40 stunning wildlife photos showing the more secretive and hidden aspects of the parks, captured by Sue Lindenberg, John Strachan, Cathy Cooper and Rebecca Harvey.
There will also be some special events over the weekend to make this a real celebration of nature and the parks that we enjoy. This exhibition will be an event not to be missed.
