Local History Talk:
“Writing the History of Local Communities in Teddington: Themes, Sources and Illustrations”.
Interested in the history of Teddington or investigating the history of your house, road or district? Want to know more about Fulwell - a lesser known part of Teddington? If so, this talk is for you.
Our expert speaker, Dr Christopher French, is the author of several successful books on Teddington local history. Subjects include the Udney Park Estate, Fulwell and Winchendon Road. He is a retired lecturer from Kingston University.
Drawing on his research into the local history of the Fulwell area of Teddington and, in particular, of Winchendon Road, between 1900 and the present day, this fully illustrated talk will discuss a number of the relevant themes which helped to shape the Fulwell and Winchendon Road communities. Such themes include the people who lived there, their housing and supporting local community facilities such as shops, schools and churches. The talk will also highlight the value of a number of readily available sources (some well-known, others less so) in tracing changes in these local communities through time.
