Award presented at Talk

In the latest Teddington Society talk, Natalie O’Rourke MBE of Park Lane Stables gave a talk entitled From the Pavement to the Palace.

Natalie explained to us the twists and turns of her life which led her from childhood in urban Birmingham to running the treasured RDA Stables in Teddington. She also went through the ups and downs of trying to save the stables when it looked at one stage like they would be closed, and in the process becoming a media star! Her MBE was in recognition of all the work she has done in enriching the lives of children and adults with disabilities or learning difficulties as well as supporting the local area with visits to care homes etc.

At the start of the evening Keith Atkinson of the Society’s Planning Group presented Natalie and her architects, Architecture wk, with a Teddington Society Design Award. The Society’s ethos has always been to ‘make Teddington an even better place to live and work’. The Planning Group looks at planning applications for refurbishments and new builds in the town and tries to encourage residents and businesses to consider the context, the history and the character of their buildings when making alterations to them. The aim is to respect the neighbouring buildings and to enhance the street scene in the town. The society’s Design Award is to recognise projects that have been outstanding in achieving this.

Sam, Natalie and Damian

The Teddington Society was pleased to be a supporter of the Park Lane Stables project from the start, and to have made the original application for the site to be awarded Asset of Community Value status which helped alert the Council and the Community to the Stables situation

Well done to Natalie for her efforts to save the Stables and well done to her architects at The Powder Room - Sam Kamleh and Damian - from Architecture wk for creating a building that we can all be really proud of.

The evening made a profit of £250 which the Society will be donating to Park Lane Stables
