Controversial Thames Water Scheme Update
The BBC have reported that the Government has approved Thames Water’s TDRA (Teddington Direct River Abstraction) Scheme, despite objections from more than 30,000 people.
See here for details.
Mike Pemberton of the Save Our Lands And River Campaign says “The BBC article unfortunately does not make clear that recent comments by Defra, Ofwat and other review bodies relate to one stage in the ongoing review of Thames Water’s overall Water Resources Plan. In this plan TDRA is one element as an option and no decision on TDRA can be made before planning application is made which TW expect will be in Spring 2026.
There are several stages TW must yet undertake, including a statutory public consultation expected in early 2025 and then a public enquiry before the Secretary of State, Steve Reed, will consider a decision."
