Martin Elengorn

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death of Martin Elengorn in November 2023. Martin represented Teddington Ward on Richmond Council for many years.

Various Groups in the Society have contributed some memories of his work for Teddington:

Rosemary McGlashon of the Planning Group

With the years he spent as a Councillor and his membership of the Council’s Planning Committee, Martin has been a source of information for the Teddington Society Planning Group for many years. He was always willing to meet us and happy to explain the background of the decisions the Council made and also to tell us of some future projects, such as the Broad Street development, and the implications for our area. We may have disagreed on some issues, but it was obvious to all who met him that he cared deeply about Teddington and wanted the area to thrive.

Geoff Howland of the Environment Group

Martin was always most helpful to the Environment Group as well, and having been the Cabinet Member for the Environment was a font of knowledge on all matters relating to the environment (and others) which he always willingly shared.

If I sent him an email asking a question, or pointing out a concern, late into the evening I always had a prompt reply awaiting me early next morning. When discussing Martin’s sad death with my principal LBRuT contact she said and I quote “He was one of the Councillors who always helped and cared about making a positive difference”. That succinctly sums Martin Elengorn up.
